Back in 1963 Marcel Andre came to Scottsdale with his wife Sandra and their 3 children. He started working as an apprentice with Traveline and Piazza Upholsteries. He saw a vision of owning his own Upholstery business. In 1970 he started with a sewing machine, a compressor, staple guns and a small work bench under the back patio of his home. With two more children added to the family, he knew he would have to expand the scope of his business. In the beginning, Marcel Andre primarily focused on re-upholstering residential work. Marcel made connections with various furniture companies and designers, such as Pruitt's, Lou Registar, Thomasville and Ethan Allen to name a few. He handled all re-upholstery and repairs. The business began to incorporate commercial work, restaurants, resorts, bars, health clubs, and private professional offices. During the course of his business, he has maintained a professional demeanor and strives for excellence in his trade. Leaving no strings attached.
He has also done several jobs for local celebrities and athletes. Meeting Jesse Owens and Erma Bombeck was a highlight in his career. Marcel Andre is a simple man with a uniquely calm and pleasant demeanor. Customers say that he is very pleasant and a fair businessman who takes good care of them all. Marcel takes on jobs that are from the simple to the very complex. No job is too big or too small for him. He will do a small cushion for one person or will build entire booths for restaurants. Marcel will travel throughout the valley. The distance ranges from jobs out west in Sun City to as far as Apache Junction. Also, he has done pro-bono work for organizations, such as, the Disabled Veterans of America and Desert Vista High School.
In 1985 Marcel Jr. joined his father in business. Marcel took the time to show his son everything about the art of upholstery. The art of cutting and sewing fabric, redesigning furniture, custom filling cushions, building booths, chairs and many more tools of the trade. In 2003, the third generation, Marcel's grandson Ben started part-time in the business.
Today, Marcel Andre and Marcel Andre Jr. are still working with many established businesses, such as, Mimi's Cafe, Island Restaurant, Garcia's, Johnny Rockets, Julio G's, and have a steady loyal clientele of residential customers throughout the valley.
